first_imgManchester United will have to cough-up £5million if they want to axe manager Louis van Gaal this summer. The Dutchman’s deal at Old Trafford earns him up to £8million-a-year, but is heavily loaded with performance-related bonuses. It will cost Van Gaal an eye-watering £1m if the club fail to finish in the Champions League positions this season – the amount written into his contract for reaching Europe’s showpiece cup competition. The Dutchman will receive a £400,000 bonus if the club win the FA Cup this season, but has missed out on a raft of other bonuses, according to The Times. There was a £1.5m bonus written into his contract for winning the Champions League and the same amount for winning the Barclays Premier League.Van Gaal’s wage is comprised of a £3.3m basic, a £2m loyalty payment, £1.6m for image rights and £1.1m for taking United into the Champions League.Jose Mourinho has been heavily-linked with the top job at Old Trafford, but there has been no confirmation of what the club plans to do after another disappointing season. However the Dutchman has told reporters he WILL be at Old Trafford next year.He said before last Sunday’s draw with Leicester: “Next year you will see me again.“We always knew that the process would take three years. I wanted to sign only for two years. The club wanted me to sign for three years, not me.“Every week for six months I have been ‘sacked’ – and yet I am still here. But this has happened to me at every club I have been at.” 1last_img read more
