Powered by Firework The implementation of VAR system in the English Premier League brought in mixed responses from the players and fans, as some were supportive, while a handful of others were against it. However, the implementation hasn’t been most effective regarding its original intent, as league referee’s chief Mike Riley has informed the clubs that there have already been four mistakes.Advertisement Image Courtesy: Getty/ReutersThere were already mistakes being speculated soon after the first matches between the 20 teams were over. There were plenty of controversies going around after the errors happened. However, now Riley, the general manager of the Professional Game Match Officials Limited, has admitted the faults during those matches were indeed true.Advertisement The things VAR missed during those games are- Isaac Hayden’s handball against Watford, Youri Tielemans not getting booked after a foul on Callum Wilson, David Silva not being awarded a penalty after getting fouled against Bournemouth, and Tom Trybull not getting booked after bringing down Sébastien Haller in the Norwich box.In a recent interview, the 54 year old said: “Of the four rounds of matches, there have been some really good examples where we have intervened. Six times where VAR has advised the referee and we have got a better result.”Advertisement “There are four incidents where VAR didn’t intervene. They were about the judgement of VAR and the processes we adopt.” Riley spoke to Sky Sports. Advertisementlast_img read more
