first_imgAbout the authorPaul VegasShare the loveHave your say Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp: We’re ignoring Man Cityby Paul Vegas10 months agoSend to a friendShare the loveLiverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is happy to be top of the table again after victory over Manchester United.Klopp insists he wasn’t bothered by Manchester City returning to the summit before Liverpool kicked off.He said, “We ignored it completely. I cannot say we passed [the test of winning after City won] because we didn’t think about it. I didn’t mention it one time. We are not silly, we know the table. Are you focused on it or not? I said it before, we played tonight Man United – and not against United and City. “That’s the only way I know and we really didn’t speak about it. I think that already helps. It’s not that they win and then we come together, train and say: ‘Did you see what City did?’ We are focused on our game and we will see where it leads us to. “If there is a moment in the end of the season when we’re still around them and we have to think about [them] and start hoping they drop points, maybe – I don’t know today. In the moment we respect them a lot, they respect us, and we have to win football games against all the others. Then we meet on January 3 again and then we think about City a lot.” last_img read more

Do you really think you can fly over from Norway and ask about it? Wow.”He doesn’t need it. Come on. He has been in the club for a total of 10-15 years. He knows everything about it. He has experience as a manager in football. He knows what he needs to do. It just has to work. That’s it for all of us. “That’s why so many managers get fired at some point, because some internally loses patience. Then you have to go.”From my point of view it looks like he sits there safely. Motivational messages help diabetic patients

first_imgResearchers have found that a low-cost text messaging programme improves blood sugar control in patients with diabetes and coronary heart disease. “The effect in this study was not only statistically significant but also has the potential to be clinically relevant by reducing risk of diabetic complications and death,” said study researchers. It may provide a means to better address the burgeoning healthcare demand-capacity imbalance. For the study, the researchers enrolled 502 patients from 34 clinics in China and the patients were randomly assigned to the text messaging intervention or a control group for six months. The intervention group received six messages per week, at random times of the day, from an automated system set up by the researchers. Also Read – An income drop can harm brainThe messages were designed to provide information and motivation and help patients set goals and manage stress. The control group received two thank you text messages per month. At six months, blood glycated haemoglobin (HbA1c) was significantly lower in the intervention group compared to the control group (6.7 per cent versus 7.2 per cent). On an average, HbA1c fell by 0.2 per cent in the intervention group and rose by 0.1 per cent in the control group – a difference of 0.3 per cent between groups. The change in fasting blood glucose was larger in the intervention, compared to control, group (-0.5 versus 0.1 mmol/L, respectively).last_img read more

DISNEYS ALADDIN MENA MASSOUD ON HIS BIG BREAK AND THE FILMS BIG

first_img Twitter Advertisement Massoud was one of more than 2,000 hopefuls who auditioned for the title role. (Credit Philip Cheung for The New York Times) Advertisement The little-known actor talks casting controversies, questions of representation and how he held his own with Will Smith. When Mena Massoud, the star of the new “Aladdin” live-action remake, got the first callback for the title role, he decided not to revisit the beloved 1992 animated original. Instead he wanted to draw inspiration from the underlying theme: a “journey of personal identity.”The cartoon does carry a well-intentioned, universal message of being true to yourself. But it has also been criticized for promoting the stereotype of “barbaric” Arabs. And though it’s set in a fictional port city in Arabia, its characters were voiced by a majority white cast. Advertisementcenter_img Facebook Born in Cairo and raised in Toronto, Massoud, 27, has a rosier view of the earlier movie. “My parents knew about the story of Aladdin far before the animation film. It’s a folk tale that is very prevalent in Egypt,” he said, adding that the movie is a “very positive depiction of where we came from.”Still, Disney needed to update the revival for woke audiences. After an open, worldwide casting call, it wound up with a diverse cast that includes the British actress Naomi Scott, who plays Jasmine and is of Indian descent, and actors with Iranian and Tunisian roots. Massoud, who had a recurring role in “Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan,” won out over more than 2,000 hopefuls who auditioned for his role. The film has received decidedly mixed reviews from critics, though in his New York Times review, A.O Scott called the casting “admirable.”In a recent phone interview, Massoud explained why he thought it was “counterproductive” to critique the story and casting process and shared his thoughts on Will Smith’s blue genie. Tevez urges Argentina to do everything to keep Messi

first_imgCarlos Tevez believes that it is essential that Lionel Messi remains with Argentina and he has urged the national side to do everything in their power to convince him to continue representing them at the international stageThe Barcelona superstar endured a miserable World Cup campaign this summer with Argentina being eliminated at the last-16 stage by eventual champions France after barely scraping through the group stages. The exit from the competition has extended Messi’s long wait for a first senior international title with Argentina head coach Jorge Sampaoli now no longer in charge. But the pressing issue for La Albiceleste now is the uncertain future of Messi, who has yet to confirm his plans for the future. The 31-year-old had briefly retired from international duty following Argentina’s Copa America final defeats to Chile in 2015-16.However, Tevez is certain that cannot happen and he urged his country to do everything in their power to hold on to their all-time leading goalscorer.FC Barcelona, Valencia CFMatch Preview: Barcelona vs Valencia Boro Tanchev – September 14, 2019 Is derby time in La Liga, as Barcelona welcomes Valencia to the Camp Nou Stadium tonight at 21:00 (CET).He told ESPN: “I think Leo has to think about himself,”“He has to think that, if there is not a project that makes him happy and in which he feels comfortable, it is very difficult to take the responsibility of leading Argentina to become champions by himself.“We are wasting a lot of time not having him happy and not being able to give him a hand to achieve that target. I think we are wrong in not being able to help him feel comfortable.“As a player and as an Argentine I tell him that we need him, that he tries to rest, that he keeps a cool head and that we need him. We need him because he is the soul of Argentina and, as long as he continues playing football, it has to be that way because he is Argentina’s biggest idol and he has to take that responsibility.“Now [I tell him] to rest, keep a cool head and try to be well, then we need him to take charge and on the pitch.”Tevez made 76 appearances for Argentina at international level himself, but was not included in the World Cup squad following his return to Boca Juniors earlier this year.last_img read more

(Courtesy Photo)“Growing up I often read about the protracted stories of African-American she-roes, and I was inspired by them to use whatever talents I had to give back,” Karen Arrington, founder and CEO of the Miss Black USA pageant, told the AFRO.  “But as I watched mainstream media I didn’t see positive images of women who looked like me. So, I thought that creating a pageant could be a great platform to celebrate the achievements of African-American women who had been disproportionately represented in mainstream media.”Today, Miss Black USA is the largest national pageant for women of color and, according to the pageant’s website, the “largest single source of scholarship funding for Black women” with more than $500,000 in scholarships awarded. Contestants range from college students and graduate students to professional women. The Maryland-based non-profit organization has also expanded to include additional competitions for teens and older women.“Miss Black USA has changed greatly since we started,” Arrington told the AFRO. “Among many things, we now have a library named in our honor at the Lower Basic Primary School in the Gambia, West Africa. Miss Black USA gets to travel there and read to students while representing our organization.”During what the organization calls her “year of service,” Miss Black USA also travels nationally for the Heart Truth campaign empowering women to take care of their heart health.Arrington continued, “Wherever there is an issue affecting our community, that’s where Miss Black USA will be.”Looking to win the 2018 title are 38 contestants from across the country, according to Arrington. They will compete in four competitions: 1) Onstage Question, 2) Talent, 3) Evening Gown, and 4) Lifestyle and Fitness. On hand to judge this year’s competition are Dr. Myla Bennett, a celebrity doctor and philanthropist seen on Bravo’s Real Housewives of Atlanta; Thomas W.
